Dominoes

A couple of nights ago, the kids wanted to play a game before they went to bed.  They wanted to play RISK.  I told them I would rather step on a rusty nail.  RISK takes daaaaaays to play.  They wanted to play Monopoly.  I told them I’d rather eat the rusty nail.  You just have to be in the right mood for Monopoly.  I suggested Dominoes.

Normally we use our Dominoes for building complex mazes that we immediately knock down and for math manipulatives.  We don’t actually play the game often.  The kids were up for re-learning.  Fine.  I just had to nurse the Cap’n and get him in bed, and then I would be down to play.

This is what greeted me at the table…

I win.  I have the cutest, sweetest, most creative kids ever.  Stunts like this make me want to play games with them every night.  I might even play RISK.  I can just imagine “Our Mom is HOT!” spelled out with the little army men.

We had a great time playing.  We played for about two hours until Harrison finally reached 300 points and won the game.

So, what games do you like to play with your family?

We play puzzles a lot. You know the ones – oversized wooden pieces that fit easily into their places!!! That’s our newest stage of fun learning!!

Those types of messages just melt my heart!

I’m rarely in the mood for board games. My youngest loves them. Often, guilt is used to manipulate me into playing. =P

I get bored with dominoes, but I like Mexican Train. My favorite games are Scrabble and Blokus.

I read the first three sentences out loud to the Boss, laughing the entire time. “What’s wrong with you people?” she asked. We’ve had the identical conversation.

Okay, your kids did pretty good winning our hearts. Very sweet.

My husband and I usually want something quiet and quick. Phase 10 is one we’ve enjoyed. We just stop at whatever phase we choose – like phase 2. (Just kidding.)

A game my kids love and even my husband enjoys is The Settlers of Catan. You all might like it too.

Hmmm…never heard of the Settlers one, Elisabeth. I’ll have to look that one up. We like Phase 10 too, but haven’t pulled that one out in a while. Thanks for the reminder!

And Arby, great minds and all, ya’ know…. =)

I grew up with two Risk-loving brothers and will give you a hint: it is not so bad if you remember that the globe is subject to unpredictable earthquakes. When I had enough of the game (which never took long) there would be a sudden global earthquake, which, unfortunately, destroyed all military operations on the planet. I don’t believe we ever finished a game when I played.
