Merry CHRISTmas, Mr. President!

Recently I received an e-mail encouraging me to send a Christmas card with a Christian message to the ACLU.  The idea is to flood their mail boxes and let them know that a huge percentage of people in America are still celebrating the real meaning of the season.  I almost always check the validity of these types of e-mails, and this particular one has been circulating since 2005.

But it still seemed like a good idea to me, but it was perhaps a bit misdirected.  So I researched the idea a little and found a similiar campaign directed at the White House.  I like this idea even better!

So, if you’d like to join me, choose a Christmas card or postcard with a Christian message and send it along to the First Family this season.

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

No need to get ugly.  That would sort of defeat the purpose of the Christian message, wouldn’t it?

I just think that perhaps our President needs the reminder that our country was founded on Christian principles, and that many, many people still appreciate that fact.

More importantly though, as you address and sign your card, say a prayer for Mr. Obama and his family.  Lifting him daily before the throne of God is bound to make more impact than a $3 card.

Who knows?  Maybe next year they’ll actually have a CHRISTmas tree at the White House.

Are ya’ with me???

This is a rubbish idea. If wanted to show what the original message of christmas was we would be dressed up as paegans sacrificing lambs.

The thing is Dec 25th has been hijacked by christianity

    Ridiculous Foolish Christians!

We are getting tired of your crap. Stop pushing your zombie Christ savior freak on us We are not interested in your cannibalistic, irrational, freakish religion anymore. For that matter, would all of the jews, muslims, rastafarians, hindus, and whoever else quit with the voodoo nonsense and get to work fixing this awful place? Please. Just stop. Really. Quit it. You’re a big girl now, so stop believing in fairy tales.

Ah, but then it would not be called Christmas. The original message of Christmas is indeed celebrating Christ’s birth. Just like the origins of of the feast of Isis is in honor of Isis, and Sol Invictus has its own origins, and on and on. You do paganism a disservice by making it one religion with one practice, (and by misspelling it I might add).

Do I care if they call it a holiday tree? Nope. Do I believe that America was founded by Christians? Nope. But I will support Kellie in sending the message of Christian love to her president. Just like I would support a Pagan’s right to send cards to the president espousing well wishing during their various celebrations throughout the wheel of the year. That’s the profound beauty of this nation, that we are each free to follow our religion and express it freely.

Christianity is a young religion compared to some. But that does not mean that they do not have the right to set aside certain days to celebrate their religion and their God. There is not one pagan tradition today that can lay claim to the origin of any celebration on any particular day. Differing pantheons the world over have simultaneously and unwittingly set aside the same days as holy.

Your knee-jerk reaction lacking any critical thought is more rubbish than Kellie wanting to spread love and kindness instead of hate.

Aaron – how is Kellie pushing anything on anyone? She asks at the end of her post, “are ya with me?”. Hardly compelling if you ask me.

WOW! Controversy on my blog…how exciting!

Daniel and Aaron~Thanks for your comments. I rarely receive comments from strangers. So, for the most part, my blog posts are directed towards my circle of friends and regular readers who, for the most part, share my faith and political leanings (not that the two of those things go hand in hand all of the time). I never expected for anyone that was not of the Christian faith to want to participate. I’m sorry to have caused you both such rage this morning. I truly hope that your blood pressure didn’t spike, and I hope you had some Tums handy. Since you had to leave your e-mail addresses in order to comment here, I truly toyed with the idea of sending you an all-out Christmas e-card, complete with angels and shepherds and baby Jesus in the manger….but I restrained. It was difficult, but I did.

Brain~Thanks, man! I really don’t care what anyone calls their tree either ( especially since the word holiday comes from HOLY day anyway), and I appreciate that you recognized that my reason for hastily writing this entry today was to send love to our President. I wouldn’t think that this is a healthy idea for anyone who hasn’t sincerely prayed for the man.

    Kellie,

I agree. Praying for our president and showing the true nature of the Christ of Christianity will go much further than just sending him a pretty piece of paper. How interesting that your message reached an audience outside of your intentions! I can’t help but point out the irony of the names Daniel and Aaron…very historic names in the Jewish and Christian cultures.

    Also, to the unbeliever…
I am sorry that Christians (I) have not done a good job of showing the world the love of God through Jesus. We have done (and still do) awful things in the name of Christ, and for that, I ask your forgiveness.

Our faith in Christ is not as blind as you may think. There are many apologetics to defend our faith. Though, even if it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that God existed and Christ was the Son of God, would you believe then?

There is a problem in our world. When it gets down to it, you and I are capable of the evils that surround us. The same human blood flows through my veins as that of the worst devil imaginable. The same greed, lust, and hate can be revealed in every living person on this earth. So, what makes us that way? The only answer that makes sense, that is quite rational, is the one given to us by the Christian faith: it is sin (or evil, or wrong). So, how do we “fix this awful place,” if we are all the same, sinful? How do we “fix” ourselves, humanity?

Again, the answer comes from the Christian faith. The good news that we share in Christmas is that God loved us enough to send His Son to become like one of us (human), to show us how to relate to Him and eachother, and to sacrifice himself so that we could be forgiven. He came that we could have peace, joy, and hope.

I could go on and on, but I think I’ve said enough. If you, the unbeliever, have any questions, I welcome them.

Wow. Kellie. Well done. Very well done. I will join you in prayer, both for the POTUS and for Brian and Daniel and Aaron. I admire the fact that you left all responses posted.

Very well put, Mary! You make me proud to have once been your Sunday school teacher!

Arby, they were too fun to delete, and their ignorance spoke for itself. I’m speaking of Daniel and Aaron. Brian is actually the worship leader at my church *giggle* (but I’m sure he’d still appreciate your prayers). He was sticking up for me in his own Brian-ish way.
